The seasons of the church year...

This year I've enjoyed following the church calendar particularly for the Easter cycle. For seven weeks - a week of Sundays - we observe and celebrate the resurrection of Christ by the power of God, Pentecost (the 50th day) concludes the Easter Season.

On Pentecost, we celebrate God's gift of the Spirit and yesterday May 27th was Pentecost Sunday. At Pentecost we are reminded of the presence of the risen, living Christ in our midst and we are also reminded that it is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that we can know the risen Christ.

Yesterday, I had the privilege and pleasure of singing in a musical at Greyfriars Presbyterian in Mt Eden. The musical is a presentation of the words of the prophets by Matthew Raymond. The title is "Come Redeemer ; And we have the words of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts".

2 Peter 1: 19-20.

The group who gathers to practice at Greyfriars are Christians from all parts of Auckland of all different walks of life, different nationalities and different communities of faith. We join together periodically for a season to practice and present our music and then we'll go into recess for a season. Music helps shape my life and I find that "at its most profound, music is capable of giving new meaning to the incarnate word".

The season is changing from autumn to winter and we're at that hard time in the semester where there's the hard slog to get those assignments finished.

Here's hoping there's a time of celebration for everyone as you enjoy the well earned inter-semester break after work well done.
