CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 S2 WEEK 14

Rest and Productivity

You’ve got a long weekend coming, which is a good thing for a few reasons. One, you get a chance to rest, sleep in, and hopefully do something you enjoy. But it’s also a great time to get some work done on your assessments. Maybe you feel like it’s THE time to get things done. If so, we hope it is productive for you.

Care for yourself, get some good sleep, and make the most of the time you have to crush your assessments. We hope you have a great weekend!

Campus closed for Labour Day

In case you didn’t know why we have a long weekend, it’s Labour Day on Monday, and campus (including the library) will be closed on Monday, 23 October.

Monday lectures will not take place next week, but make-up Monday is happening in week 16 (30 October) for all classes missed.

IMPORTANT End of Semester Message

Just a friendly reminder that the end of the semester is 10 November. That’s a lot sooner than it may sound, so plan accordingly.

Assessments handed in up to one week after the due date are marked with 10% late penalty, and those handed in between 7-14 days are marked pass/fail. Assessments handed in after the two-week period normally are not marked and receive a fail grade.
So, be on time!

If you need an extension, please talk to your teacher and Neroli, and complete an
application for an extension.

Have you met with a Peer Writing Assistant yet?

Our Peer Writing Assistant, Moana, is here for you. With those critical assessments coming due, make the most of her expertise by booking a session today.

To book a 25-50-minute session,
contact the Library with the following details:

  • Your name and student ID number
  • Which assessment you are focusing on (course, assessment outline), and briefly identify what aspect of the assessment you would like help with.
  • Whether you want a 25-minute or 50-minute slot (in-person, via Zoom, or email)!

Where’s Your Carey Merch?

If you haven’t noticed, Carey has some epic merch out there. And maybe you’ve been wondering, “How can I be awesome?” Well, while the merch may not actually make you awesome, you will definitely feel awesome with a Carey t-shirt, hoodie, or beanie!

Nicola is making an order soon, so flick her an email if you want one (nicola.mountfort@carey.ac.nz), and let her know your size (men’s sizes).

T-shirts - $30
Hoodies - $65
Beanies - $15

Final Karakia of the Term

Next week is the final karakia for the term, and our Pastoral Leadership students are going to curate our time together, so be sure to come along as we finish out the term! Join online or come on campus to worship with the Carey whānau at 11.15am on Tuesday.

Join Weekly Karakia via Zoom

Community Lunch (Tuesday ONLY!)

Community lunches continue to be great times for us to connect with one another, but there are, unfortunately, only two more remaining—*a solitary tear streams down*.

Come along Tuesday from noon, right after karakia. There will be no Monday lunch next week because we will all be working on assessments or at the beach on Labour Day—or working on assessments while at the beach.

See you at the wharekai on Tuesday!

Don’t forget lunch prep/serving and clean-up duties, which are posted in the wharekai. The final lunch of the term will take place on Monday, 30 October.

2024 Fees Confirmed

We know it’s still 2023, and there is a lot to do before next year (Summer holidays, Christmas, and making it through this term, to name a few!). But, we wanted to let you know that the 2024 fees have been finalised. This includes the Student Services Fee—thank you to those who provided feedback to Torin. If you are continuing on next year, be sure to check these figures out. And if you haven’t looked at the 2024 provisional timetable, give that a squizz too!

Also, we will have some exciting news on scholarships in the coming weeks, so watch this space!
