SEMESTER 1  |  TEACHING WEEK 13
This week Craig and I are moving to Whanganui to be near our family. Family is the glue that sticks us together as society, it is the meal table where we all find a place to be ourselves, it is the community where are loved and listened to. I know not all families function well, and some not at all, but the close bonds of family are a God given strategy for human flourishing.

In Whanganui we are excited to be joining a band of radical disciples, meal-table people, and just all-round good guys (which is of course a gender inclusive expression) who make up the local church. The church is the family of God, and something Craig and I delight in, is being family for other Christians. When someone needs a mum or dad but can’t approach theirs, when someone needs a meal table to gather around, when someone needs to hear words of encouragement – the church is there to be family.

At Carey we are not a church, but we are a type of academic and formative family that makes time for one another. We are more than an academic institution. We are children of God, gathered in the wharekai, gathered around the scriptures, and gathered around the living God. As the business end of the semester is upon us – look out for one another as family who are more than a collection of individuals. We are people whose unity is in Christ who gave away his own rights to lift up those who had none.

LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS FOR POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH

Can you help?

“I am looking for participants who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness who are interested in spending extended time with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Taking part in this research will involve 2 x 1 hour interviews separated by 6 weeks praying two spiritual practices centred around Mark’s account of Gethsemane." Deborah Haurua.

ENROLMENT FOR SEMESTER TWO - RETURNING STUDENTS

Remember to get Rob Ayres (rob.ayres@carey.ac.nz) your Change of Enrolment form if you need to change your enrolment that you put in at the beginning of the year or if you did not lock in semester two courses at the beginning of the year.
Rob needs this by Friday 25 June.

PEER WRITING ASSISTANTS

Do you want some support with assignment writing? Do you know about our Peer Writing Assistants? We have a new Peer Writing Assistants (PWAs) team who have volunteered their time to work with students to help them with academic writing and academic literacy.

Talk to the library team or the PWA team if you want to know more about what a PWA can do for you! Thank you Rebecca Pullen, Susanna Denby, Grace Paddison and Jono Edmeades!

The team won’t write your assignment for you 😊, but WILL help you with the process of writing and give you feedback on the overall structure of your work. If you would like help with your assessments, you are able to book time with one of our PWA team.

Appointments can be in-person on campus, or online (Zoom etc). For an appointment, please contact the library (NOT the PWA team) as below:
For an extended one-to-one booking (30 minute or 60 minute options) email : library@carey.ac.nz and include:

  • Identify which assessment you are focussing on (course, assessment outline)
  • Identify if you want a 30 minute or 60 minute slot
