Style Guide for Assignments

Hi

We want to be consistent in the way assignments are presented at Carey - but when we looked at our expectations of the way assignments are referenced, we realised that we had a range of different approaches - partly because academic referencing is complex (as some of you will have found out from experience!) and partly, too, because different academic disicplines approach referencing using different systems.

At its May meeting, the Carey Academic Committee decided that from the start of this semester (Semester 2 2011) we would standardise across ALL undergraduate courses, and expect students to follow the SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) referencing system. The aim is to avoid any inconsistency or confusion.

A revised Referencing and Style Guide, with explanation and guidelines, appears in the Main Menu (left hand side) of the CareyOnline homepage. Please check this out, and use it as you prepare your assignments from now on. It replaces all previous information on referencing on CareyOnline, and in the Student Handbook.

If you have any questions about academic referencing, please talk with your lecturer - or contact me!
