As we enter the last of the teaching weeks for Semester One and with just two weeks after that until the official end of the semester, there may well be a sense of a lot going on. There is! Between the assessments, lectures, practical placements, work, church commitments, friends and family, sure! life is fairly full. Not to mention all the other bits and pieces you may be involved with. Every one of us likely has a load that is equally full but different in its makeup.

Where and how we choose to put our energies will come from varying sources – out of obligation or duty, out of perceived or real expectation, out of our strengths and interests, from a sense of call, or possibly due to a push from others and into the complete unknown.

I'm convinced that whatever the reason for getting involved in something, and if we allow it to, that situation will stretch us into using all of our abilities and even those we may not possess. I don't believe that we should only be part of something only because that's what we are good at. In fact whatever we're involved with should stretch us with our weaknesses and develop new skill sets – big and small. In fact isn't that what training is all about? Learning things we don't know about, developing in areas that we're unsure about, strengthening those abilities we already possess, scary as that may be at times.

Whatever your reason for studying through Carey over this past semester and wherever you are based, may you have been strengthened, stretched, challenged and leant new things. Remember that God is using where you are right now to train you for where he's going to take you. May this week be one of encouragement and perhaps even something new.

SEMESTER TWO ENROLMENT

The Government has set a cap on the number of students that each tertiary institution can have. Carey is already pretty much full after Semester One in relation to numbers in government-accredited programmes. So Carey cannot take new students for Semester Two who want to enrol in our New Zealand Qualifications Authority-validated programmes. New students can, however, still enrol in our internal Certificate of Christian Studies, but this will mean that no access student loans and/or allowances.

We are accepting new full-time students for 2011. If you have queries about this please contact our Academic Registrar on 0800 773 776 or registrar@carey.ac.nz

If you are aware of people thinking about enrolling for the first time at Carey in Semester Two please pass this information on to them or get them to be in touch with us directly.

Returning students

If you are not already enrolled in courses for Semester Two it’s time to start thinking about this now. You don’t need to wait and in fact it would be helpful if you got onto this sooner rather than later. If you are unsure as to whether you have enrolled already simply check with Neroli (registrar@carey.ac.nz or ph 0800 773 776).

Deadline for enrolment without penalty is Wednesday 23 June.

‘WORSHIP THEN AND NOW’

As you think about enrolling, have you considered this course on ‘Worship Then and Now’ held onsite on Tuesday afternoons in Semester Two? The course will include:

Foundational biblical/theological principles of worship
Traditions of worship: through the centuries, around the globe, across the generations
Components of worship
Resources for worship
NZ churches at worship
The place of music in worship
The ‘leader’ of worship
Development of an order of service for worship
