Where will the road take you this year?

There’s a good distance to go just yet, but things are ramping up around Carey. We hope you are ready for an exhilirating semester of learning more about our God, yourselves, and one another. And, maybe you are unsure of where the road is taking you, but we hope you are ready to see what God has in store for you and how you might grow wherever you are placed.

So, read on for all you need to know for week two (and beyond), and, as always, shout if you need anything!

Have you heard of The Code?

The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, which we affectionately refer to as “The Code,” lays out roles and responsibilities set out by NZQA for schools like Carey to support your wellbeing, development, and educational achievement. As a signatory of the Code, we have people and processes in place to help you in these areas. Learn more on our Student Support page.

Lecture Recordings on CareyOnline

If you are unable to access CareyOnline, please reach out to Neroli immediately. If you have yet to check out your course(s) on CareyOnline, then you probably should get on that straightaway too. Your lecture recordings can be found on your course page, and they usually appear within a day. If you are an online student and not attending class via Zoom, you should be watching these each week in the lecture playlist. For those in class online or on-site, these recordings are available for you to reference any time you need them.

Weekly Karakia Tuesday from 11:15am

Jonathan Robinson got our Tuesday karakia off to a great start with an introduction to Mark. Next week, Michael Rhodes will be carrying the narrative forward, and you won’t want to miss it.

Join us on-site if you can on Tuesday at 11:15am in the chapel, even if you don’t normally come to campus. Audio recordings will be made available soon, so watch this space.

A Markan Blessing

This past week, Jonathan gifted us a blessing from the gospel of Mark to carry with us throughout the year. Here it is for those who weren’t able to attend:

May the living God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, give you eternal life;
May your faith in Jesus the Christ bring you healing, truth and peace;
And may the Spirit of Holiness descend upon you
and drive you into God’s purposes;
And so, make you ready for the day when the Son of Man comes
in the glory of his Father and with the holy angels, Amen.

The Library

Whether you’re online or on-site, Mei Ling, Anna, and Siong can help you get your resources, answer questions, and be around for support as you study. Flick them an email, give them a call (09 526 0347), or stop by the library whenever you need them. You can also find your Student Support Advisers, Denise and Jarrahmal, in the library as well.

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 6.30pm
Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday: 10am to 12.30pm

First Steps for new students

All new students should be enrolled in First Steps on CareyOnline. This is a course to familiarise yourself with life at Carey and give you vital academic skills for your study journey. This is a required course, so please make it a priority to complete if you haven’t done it before.

Community and kai!

Coffee, Cake & Convo on Mondays at 12.15pm in the wharekai

Come join your classmates and Carey staff for coffee and cake every Monday. Bring your own lunch, and make the most of this chance to get to know one another.

Community Lunch on Tuesdays after karakia in the wharekai

A great opportunity to connect for on-campus students is over lunch on Tuesdays. Lunch is provided, so there’s really no reason to not come along, right?

Raranga, a formation opportunity for you

If you’re not already part of a formation group with your programme, you are welcome to attend Raranga on Tuesday mornings throughout the semester from 10-11am.

Raranga is the name for our open formation group, and it means "weaving," as Carey is a place where we are woven together. We will get to know each other better, support one another prayerfully and practically, and do all sorts of exciting things throughout the year. We will be delving into scripture, hearing from Carey staff, eating yummy things if you’re on campus, giving mini sermons on the theology of donuts, and more. So, come along!

Carey is moving!

In exciting news, Carey will be moving at the end of 2025 to 3 Marewa Road, Greenlane, with classes beginning at the new campus in semester one 2026. This year, classes will be held on our current site.

City Impact Church will be the new owner of our current buildings, and they are already fitting out the building next door.

NOTE: While you may observe the construction from our basketball/volleyball court, this will not affect operations, and you should feel free to use the outside spaces as usual. If there is a time when City Impact need to use our court for deliveries or construction, the area will be clearly cordoned off, and we will update you accordingly. In the meantime, the area outside is for you to use, but please do not go beyond the contstruction fencing.
