CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2024 S2 WEEK 3

Psalm 92:12-15

12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
14 In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap,
15 showing that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Study can be hard. Assessments, research, learning, and all that goes with it are demanding, and it might feel like you are in over your head sometimes. But, take heart in the fact that you are loved, and your hard work is part of planting yourself in the house of the Lord. Even if you feel like you don’t know how you will make it, you can. This time can lead to your flourishing, and we are here to help.

Check in with your teachers, nestle into the library, talk with our support staff, and remember where you are planted. You’ve got this!

Need an extension?

If you are worried about getting your assessments done in time and would like to request an extension, please contact Neroli Hollis, and complete an Application for Extension form.

In the 10 Essentials on CareyOnline, you can find everything you need to rock your assessments. Specifically, have you seen the How to do Referencing document? If you’re wondering how to reference, from formatting footnotes to tidying up your bibliography, this document has it all. Check it out!

Did you know about our peer writing support?

Another one of the support mechanisms we offer at Carey is a Peer Writing Assistants (PWA) programme. If you need some extra help with your writing or want an objective eye on tone, formatting, etc., we’ve got a person who can help you out!

Reach out to Moana, our Peer Writing Assistant, if you need some insight on your work.

Academic writing workshop

So, you already know our academic support staff are pretty great. But did you know that Jarrahmal and Anna will be running an academic writing workshop? Mark your diaries!

  • When: 14 August 12:30-1pm
  • Where: Te Whare Oranga AND on Zoom

The Library and First Steps due 23 August

The First Steps deadline is 23 August. So, you’ve only got a couple weeks to complete that if you’re a new student.

You know the library is the place to go for pretty much anything you need while you’re at Carey. Whether you’re online or on-site, Mei Ling, Anna, and Siong can help you get your resources, answer questions, and be around for support as you study. Flick them an email, give them a call (09 526 0347), or stop by whenever you need them.

Library Hours

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 6.30pm
Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday: 10am to 12.30pm

Downloading e-books

Did you know that if you download a chapter of an e-book you can keep it permanently on your computer, whereas normally if you download the whole book you are limited to having it on Adobe Digital Editions for a limited period of time only? If you want to keep a portion of a book forever, download a chapter.

Karakia this Tuesday

What a gift to hear from Phil last week at karakia. Come along this week, and hear from the one and only matua Luke Kaa-Morgan.

Karakia recordings for all our students

Check out the recordings for karakia if you’ve missed any or want to hear them again.
