CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 SEMESTER 2 WEEK 0

Semester Two is Here!

If you are a returning student to Carey, we hope you have rested well and enjoyed the last few weeks. If this semester marks the start of your Carey journey as a new student, nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kāreti Iriiri o Carey!

Welcome to the start of what we hope is an enriching time of growth in your life as you learn more about who God is and the part you play in God's designs for Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond. Many of you are starting this learning experience as a member of a CareyLocal cohort, and we could not be more excited about what is in store for you and your church as a result.

If studying like this is new for you, know that we are here to help. Every week, you'll receive this CareyWeekly Newsletter, which will keep you up to speed on all the important things you need to know as we go through the semester. So, make a habit of reading these each week so you can be in the know.

Mānawatia a Matariki! Celebrate our New Year!

The Māori new year, a time to stop, rest, sit together, reflect, eat, celebrate, and turn our attention to the year ahead. It’s an important part of who we are in Aotearoa New Zealand, and we are becoming increasingly aware of the gift of this season. The Māori lunar calendar is a way of measuring time through the seasons. The rising of the star cluster, Matariki, marks the beginning of the new year and signals the start of a new life cycle.

This is a time for giving and sharing, gathering and passing on knowledge with those who seek it. A time for whānau and the whānau whānui (extended family and friends). It’s a season for planting, harvesting, weather, and life. We are honouring the context of our place in the world and the whenua. What an opportunity to engage with these activities in our faith communities as we gather to worship God.

Ngā mihi o Matariki!

Orientation Monday, 17 July

At the start of each semester, we welcome new students into the Carey whānau at orientation.

New students are strongly encouraged to attend orientation on-site since it is such a special time to connect. A pōwhiri will take place from 8.30am (be sure to arrive by 8.15am!), followed by time to get to know other students and staff, and also to share some kai.

If you are a CareyLocal student, you are more than welcome to attend! If you're in the Auckland area, this would be a great time to come to campus, meet your teachers and other Carey staff face-to-face, and explore the library and the rest campus.

Returning students are also invited to come along and welcome new students and staff.
