CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 SEMESTER 1 WEEK 10

The Home Stretch Has Begun!

Study and Reading weeks are behind us, there aren't many public holidays left, and assessments are ramping up. You've been working hard, and even if the light at the end of the tunnel seems far off, it's getting brighter. Keep up the diligent mahi, focus on making the most of each lecture, meet with your teachers, and leverage the student support resources at your disposal. Chat to our Library staff, meet up with Tanya and Eugene, and ask for help if you need it.

Don't forget the 10 Essentials, which outline how to write well. You can also find some sample assignments there. Kia kaha!

Peer Writing Assitance

Speaking of help, have you met with a Peer Writing Assistant? Moana and Keren are keen and capable to help with your assessments. Give them a shout!

To book a 20-40-minute session, contact the Library with the following details:

  • Your name and student ID number
  • Which assessment you are focusing on (course, assessment outline), and briefly identify what aspect of the assessment you would like help with.
  • Whether you want a 20-minute or 40-minute slot (in-person, via Zoom, or email)!

It's Great to Study Here, Yeah?

We know you've experienced what makes Carey so great. You are a huge part of that, and we are making significant efforts to invite more people into what God is doing here.

CareyLocal

We are offering two courses for free to groups of 10 or more! Are there people in your church who might like to study a Carey course together? Help us spread the word!

Learn more about CareyLocal on our website, or chat to Nicola for more info.

Kickstart Scholarship

For semester two, Carey is also offering the Kickstart Scholarship, which funds one course for students new to theological study at Carey! Pass along the the Kickstart brochure to a friend.

Open Day and Online Open Evening

Invite your friends along to get a taste of Carey on-site and in real time at Open Day Tuesday, 23 May. They can come to karakia, attend a class, and meet the Carey whānau.

If you're regional or can't make it to Open Day, come along to our Online Open Evening on Tuesday, 6 June at 7.30pm.

Karakia This Week

Join us on Zoom or on-site to hear more on our theme for the year, Hear the Word of the Lord. Monique Lee will be sharing with us, and you won't want to miss out.

Graduation Helpers Needed

We still need some helpers for graduation, and we're handing out free movie tickets to anyone who can help! It's one of the most special days on the Carey calendar, but it doesn't happen without heaps of work.

If you are able to help set up and tear down at graduation on Saturday, 20 May at 2pm at Manukau City Baptist Church, let Neroli know.

Community Lunches are back too!

Community lunches will take place Monday and Tuesday for on-site students. If you are keen for great food and even better connections with the Carey community, then come along--12.15 on Mondays and noon on Tuesday.

Also, please stick around to help tidy up--it's an ODD week next week!

Library Language Survey--Final Call!

This is the last chance to complete the language survey for the library.

We'd love to find out more about the different languages that are represented at Carey from both from students and staff so we can represent well.

Please take a minute to fill out this survey.
