CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 SEMESTER 1 WEEK 7

Study and Reading Weeks

We're through the first of our Study and Reading weeks, which continue through week 9 (ending Friday, 28 April). As a reminder, no on-site courses take place during this time, aside from the block course, Issues Facing the Church Today in week 8 from 17-21 April, and the Insights into Church History block course in week 9 from 26-29 April.

Also, weekly karakia and community lunches will not take place until week 10, beginning Monday, 1 May. Library hours will remain the same.

Assessment Support

As you're working hard on assessments, our staff will continue to be available to support you as usual. So feel free to reach out to Tanya and Eugene in Te Whare Oranga, or Siong, Mei Ling, and Anna in the library. Keep up the good work!

And don't forget about the 10 Essentials found on CareyOnline. Need help with referencing? Using Greek and Hebrew? Want some sample essays to review? The 10 Essentials have them all!

Issues around Sexual Health for the Church

In next week's block course, Issues Facing the Church Today, Jo Robertson will be sharing with the class. Jo is a Sex Therapist, Betrayal Trauma Specialist, and Parent Consultant, offering a range of vital resources to people in Auckland and beyond.

On Tuesday, 18 April, Jo's time with the class is open to the entire Carey community, from 9.30am-4.30pm. Come along if you are in Auckland, as Jo shares on topics that are critical to the church and society today.

Carey at Easter Camps

Like many of you, Carey went to camp last weekend (as evidenced by Emma and Nicola pictured on the famous Carey Couch above). While staff spoke at multiple camps, we saw evidence of God's work across the North Island. Some of us may still be recovering from all the fun and hard work, but we trust your Easter weekend was fruitful and encouraging!

Your Peer Writing Assistants

Did you know that Carey has a peer-based, academic-writing support programme? We have two new Peer Writing Assistants for 2023, who have volunteered their time to work with students to help them with academic writing and literacy. Thank you, Moana and Keren (left to right in the photo above) for helping offer this support.

To book a 25-50-minute session, contact the Library with the following details:

  • Your name and student ID number
  • Which assessment you are focusing on (course, assessment outline), and briefly identify what aspect of the assessment you would like help with.
  • Whether you want a 25-minute or 50-minute slot (in-person, via Zoom, or email)!

Community Lunch and Karakia

Community lunches and karakia will not be taking place over the study/reading weeks. See you back in week 10!

Library News
