Covid-19 Update 19 October: Semester two classes to continue fully online

Kia ora koutou. As you will likely already be aware, Auckland remains in lockdown level 3 (step 1) until at least Monday 1 November when the government will review the decision. It is becoming clear that the chances of a return to alert level 2 in time to allow a return to campus for any part of semester two are highly unlikely. We have therefore made the difficult decision that the remainder of classes for semester two will continue to be facilitated fully online. Please check your courses on CareyOnline for specific details and links for your classes.

It is also clear that Covid-19 restrictions will affect our scheduled end-of-year celebrations and farewells – and a final decision on those events will be made in the near future. These decisions align with the advice from the Ministry of Health and NZQA, and have been made in the best interests of protecting all of our staff and students – and wider communities.

We acknowledge that for many of you, continuing to study fully online will be difficult and we are working proactively with the teaching teams and support staff to ensure that you have the best support possible. If you need additional support please do not hesitate to contact your teachers or any of the support staff. If you are struggling with assessment timelines please contact your teacher and/or Neroli (neroli.hollis@carey.ac.nz) – do this sooner rather than later so we can work with you. Remember that the library continues to be available for click and collect services Monday to Saturday 10:00am-1:00pm. Look out for each other, take care and please reach out if you need any support.

For the most recent advice on Auckland restriction and the three step plan announced on Monday 4 October please refer to the Auckland Regional Covid Advice page. Other specific regional advice can be found on the Government’s Covid Advice page here. Again - stay safe and look after one another. Kia kaha, kia manawanui.
