As you will likely be aware, yesterday the government announced that Auckland will remain in Alert Level 3 until midnight on Sunday 30th August, with a subsequent move to Alert Level 2. NZQA and TEC have released updated guidance for tertiary providers around operation in Alert Levels 3 and 2. The health and safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance, and the Carey management team has considered the updated guidelines and their implications. As a result we have come to the following decisions:

A.      Weekly-taught classes will resume on campus (face to face) after the mid-semester study/reading break from semester-week 10 (22nd September).

B.      As communicated on 17th August, all undergraduate block courses scheduled for the mid-semester break will continue on campus (face to face). This includes: Children’s Ministry (31 Aug-4 Sept) and Introduction to Preaching (7-11 Sept).

Please note that the block courses for Christian Spirituality and Making Life Work (Intermission) will not proceed on campus but will be facilitated online. Christian Spirituality will be facilitated over 27 and 28 August ONLINE.
Please check on the block course pages in CareyOnline, or with your teachers for specific information.

C.       Post-graduate block courses will continue on-site as scheduled for Inner Healing (31 Aug – 4 Sept), Isaiah (7-9 Sept) and Research Methods (14-16 Sept).
Please note that the Integrative Theology (26-28 Aug) block course will be facilitated online and not on campus. (NB: Isaiah details are also currently being finalised with students)

D.      The Library will open at these times:
9am – 5pm Monday to Friday
10am – 12:30 pm Saturday
If you need any additional support please contact the library staff (library@carey.ac.nz).

E.       Face coverings or face masks are recommended for all students, to be worn when on campus and in class.

F.       Observe good hygiene practices (see signage around campus). If you are sick, please stay home. If you have symptoms of Covid-19 it is important that you get tested.

G.      Physical distancing of 1m must be observed on campus

H.      All students and staff are required to register attendance on-site via the Covid-19 tracer app, using the QR codes that will be posted on all entry points and in the teaching spaces. All students and staff must also sign in at reception upon entering the campus, and out upon leaving the campus.

We appreciate that due to the Level 3 restrictions that are in place, some students may have had travel plans affected. We will be ensuring that there are options to access the block courses online for those that are unable to make it to Auckland in time for teaching. If you are at higher risk of severe illness from Covid-19, or caring for vulnerable whanau members and would prefer not to attend on site, please contact Neroli Hollis (neroli.hollis@carey.ac.nz) so we can work with you on other arrangements. We will do all we can to provide alternative access to the learning and teaching resources for those who are unable to be on campus. The most important thing is for you to feel and stay safe and well.

Clearly the situation can change rapidly. Please refer to CareyOnline for any important updates relating to Covid-19 and the teaching situation.

If you have any concerns of questions please get in touch with Neroli Hollis or Rob Ayres (rob.ayres@carey.ac.nz). Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenging times. Nga mihi nui.
