A MESSAGE FROM LAURIE GUY (Vice-Principal Academic)...

Graduating student survey: We think we're doing well at Carey but are always wanting to improve. In the last few months we have conducted a survey relating to Carey's academic programme with selected graduating students. Yes, it has confirmed that we are doing well. But it has also pointed out areas of weakness where we could improve. We take all comments seriously. We will be having reflection and discussions on the survey material over the next couple of months as we seek to continue to lift our quality of excellence.

Late assignment policy: You will be aware that there has been tightening up in this area and some changes kick in, in this semester. The situation now is:

·        You will not normally apply for an extension as they will be granted only for reasons of health and bereavement (or other dire situation) and documentation (e.g. medical certificate) will be needed. However, you can still apply formally in writing using the appropriate form for an extension. The penalty for the first week of lateness has been softened to 5% of the mark (B+ to B etc).

·        The penalty for the second week of lateness remains at 10% of the mark (B+ to B- etc).Thereafter the work will be marked on a pass/fail basis (maximum mark = 50%).

No work will be marked if it comes in more than one week after the end of semester (for 2007 this is after 16 November). In this situation we are trying to be fair to all students and have a policy that is workable for markers and administration. If you have any queries on this issue please feel free to contact me or Neroli as registrar.CAFÉ THEOS

"WORSHIP MATTERS"

COFFEE AND DESSERT WITH KEES BRUIN

A professional artist for 25 years, Kees Bruin has exhibited throughout New Zealand and internationally.
He incorporates traditional realism with contemporary and photo-realistic techniques and merges elements of the past, present and future, realistic and symbolic, which all combine to make the unseen, seen. His intriguing artwork also reflects his Christian faith and his views on the world and life. Kees will be sharing some of his work with us. This will be an evening to see some fascinating imagery and hear more on why he paints and draws in this style. Check out some of Kees' work: www.keesbruin.com
