Welcome back to CareyOnline and study at Carey for 2012!

I hope that this year turns out to be a really significant season in your journeying with God.

Some important academic Information:

All CareyOnline course are now ‘live’ and accessible to you. There are a couple of really important ACADEMIC CHANGES that I need to draw to your attention…and one additional point at the end!

1. Late submission of assignments. As we warned you last year, the regulations for late submission have now changed, and are much tighter than before! Assignments have due dates, and they are what you should be planning towards.

Any assignment that you submit up to one week after the due date (without a formal extension having been granted) will be marked, but will incur an academic penalty equivalent to a 10% reduction in marks - normally equivalent to two grade steps – eg an A- to B+, or B+ to B-.

An assessment item submitted more than one week after the due date will be marked, but will not be graded and will receive only a “Pass” or “Fail”.

No assignment submitted after the last day of the semester will be marked at all.

(If you struggle with study, and study deadlines, we’re happy to help you work out ways of overcoming this!!)

2. Submission of assignments. As in the past, all assignments must be submitted as uploads through CareyOnline. However, from now on when you submit your assignments they will now also be directed to Turnitin – a software application that does an originality check on each assignment, and delivers a report to your marker indicating any areas of plagiarism in the assignment. (Turnitin is used very commonly by other academic institutions – some of you may have encountered it already.) It should make no difference to the way you submit assignments! Guidelines will be issued where necessary.

3. Recording of lectures. As a matter of courtesy to your lecturers, it is important to check with them for permission if you wish to record any part of a class. Please remember that any recordings you do make are for your personal use only, and must not be published in any way.
