Friday May 28th @ 1.30 pm – 3:00pm at Laidlaw College

Please let Ioana know if you would like to come for lunch beforehand at 12.30pm, on imaier@laidlaw.ac.nz

Speakers:

Nicola Hoggard-Creegan: Nicola will give a presentation on her paper on Science, Subjectivity and Salvation, which she will also be delivering in July at the Melbourne College of Divinity Conference.

Yael Klangwisan. “The Marine Lover of the Song of Songs”… This paper discusses the nature of reading, the ethics of reading and how this relates to the Song of Songs. Luce Irigaray is introduced as a theorist whose dynamic style of engaging with texts called “love discourse” provides possibilities for reading the Song of Songs. Particularly significant are her use of poetic forms, her treatment of the text as “person” and thus the potential for face to face encounter with evasive biblical poetry like the Song.
