Celebrating a Carey Legend

We want to let students know that Siong Ng has resigned from her role as Carey's Library Manager, with her final day at Carey being 11 September 2026.

Siong has been indicating to the team that she was considering a change for a while now, so with the completion of two significant projects: the relocation of the Carey Library to Te Whare Tōtara and the implementation of our new Library Management System, after more than 17 years of faithful service, Siong has decided that the time is right to begin a new chapter.

It is difficult to overstate Siong’s contribution to the life of Carey. Through her leadership of the library, her care for students, her commitment to excellence, and her willingness to serve wherever needed, she has enriched the experience of countless students, staff, and graduates over many years.

There will be opportunities in the coming weeks to thank Siong and celebrate her remarkable service. In the meantime, please join us in expressing our gratitude for her faithfulness, friendship, and commitment to the Carey community. While we will miss her greatly, we are excited for her as she begins this next chapter.

CGS Reseach Conference & Celebration of Scholarship Dinner
10 September

Join us on Thursday 10 September for a day celebrating research, scholarship, and theological reflection at Carey. The Carey Graduate School Research Conference will feature presentations from postgraduate students and faculty, showcasing current research and exploring topics relevant to the church, ministry, and wider society.

The day concludes with the Celebration of Scholarship Dinner, recognising and celebrating the achievements of our research community. Come Talk Theology and AI

Hi everyone, Pope Leo XIV has just published the first encyclical of his papacy, Magnifica Humanitas, or “On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence.” Such encyclicals form the foundation for what is known as Catholic Social Teaching (CST), a “body of thought on social issues that has been developed” by the Catholic church “over the past hundred years.” While perhaps nobody on this list is Roman  Catholic, I consider CST to be an incredibly thoughtful, helpful resource for thinking about how the good news about Jesus lands in our world today (check out the 9 core principles above).

Jonathan and Michael want to read the encyclical and talk about it, and they’re inviting all of you to join them!

From Monday 24 August, we'll be entering our Study and Reading Weeks. This means there will be no scheduled classes for the following three weeks, giving you dedicated time to focus on assignments, prepare for assessments, catch up on reading, and make good progress towards the end of semester.

Make the most of this opportunity to plan your workload, stay on top of deadlines, and take advantage of the library and academic support services available to you. We wish you all the best for a productive and rewarding study period.

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 6pm
Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday: 10am to 12.30pm
