We are confident you are taking full advantage of the Study and Reading weeks and making great progress on your work for the semester. So, well done, and keep up the good work.

As a reminder, Introduction to Christian Leadership (Micro-credential) students are back to class online next Tuesday, 16 September. Normal classes resume in week 10, starting Monday, 22 September.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Next week is a special week across the Motu, as it is the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. Te Wiki is more than just a week, and, at Carey, we will be highlighting Te Wiki in a variety of ways next week. But we will also carry the learning and fun into the following week as we welcome students back to normal campus rhythms in week 10. Stay tuned!

CGS Research Conference Next Week

If you are interested in what integrative theology might look like beyond the undergraduate world, we would love for you to join us for our Carey Graduate School conference. It is free and comes with food—so there is also that! Join us Thursday, 18 September from 9:30am to 4pm.

We will be hearing from several current Carey graduate students, a guest historian from Otago, and some Carey Alumni. We would love for you to join us but do need you to register online so we know how much to cater.

Weekly karakia

With Study and Reading weeks, we won’t be joining for our weekly karakia until week 10. It’s sad, but we can’t wait to see you back Tuesday, 23 September.

The library

Library hours are the same over the Study and Reading weeks, and so is the general level of awesomeness of our staff. Anna, Mei Ling, and Siong are keen as ever to assist you with anything you need. Flick them an email, give them a call (09 526 0347), or stop by the library.

• Monday to Thursday: 8:30am to 6:30pm
• Friday: 9am to 5pm
• Saturday: 10am to 12:30pm

Accessing Archives and Stack collection

As a reminder, accessing the archives collection or books that are in the stack collection will require some forward planning for the next few months. Three working days' notice needs to be given if you would like anything from either collection. Just give us a shout, and we will help you out.

Things might be weird for a bit

Well, weirder than normal, that is! You know we are moving soon. That is a very involved process, and you’re going to start noticing some more changes around here. You will have seen our library is looking a bit empty but everything is still accessible.

Here are some more details to keep note of:

• 11-14 November - The remainder of the library book collection will move to the new location.
• 14-19 November - We will be operating between locations (someone will be on-site at our current home in Penrose to help access physical resources).
• 20-21 November - The physical library will be shut at Penrose but we will still provide electronic services.
• 24 November - Our move to 1-7 Marewa Road, Greenlane will be complete!

Occasionally over the next few weeks there will be contractors in the Library, which may increase noise as they take down shelves and box books. We will make other spaces available around the campus for study, including the postgraduate study room upstairs in the library and lecture rooms. Just ask our library staff.

Any other interruptions to services will be available on our website.

2026 Proposed Student Services Fee

The Student Services Fee is a non-tuition fee that is charged to students enrolled at Carey. The funds received by Carey from the fee can only be spent on student services. So, that means it’s entirely FOR students. But, we need to hear from you! Each year, we request student feedback on the Student Services Fee before it is finalised. This is in compliance with guidelines set out by the Tertiary Education Commission, but we also really care about what you have to say.Take a look at the 2026 Proposed Student Services Fee, which outlines where the funds will be spent and heaps of other details.
