CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2024 S2 WEEK 9

Yay! We’re back!

We know it wasn’t a break, but we missed our regular lecture schedule over the Study and Reading weeks, and we missed seeing many of you in classroms and on Zoom.

So, we are looking forward to getting back to our normal schedule, and hopefully you are too.

You've been hard at work, crushing those assessments, reading, and studying. Hopefully you did a bit of resting too. We are back to class next Monday, 23 September! If you’re on campus, don’t forget community lunches, and karakia! Yay!

Mental Health Awareness Week

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week in Aotearoa, and the theme is “Community is…what we create together.” Run by the Mental Health Foundation since 1993, Mental Health Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of mental health issues across our country “working towards creating a society that works towardfree from discrimination, where all people enjoy positive mental health & wellbeing” (mentalhealth.org.nz).

Learn more about Mental Health Awareness Week, including daily activities with ways to promote and support mental health.

Karakia and community rhythms

Karakia is back next Tuesday with Dan Cuttriss speaking on Tuesday at 11.15am. Don’t forget you can listen to all the recordings from the first half of the term online. Check them out!

Also, Coffee, Convo, and Cake is back on Mondays at 12.15pm, and community lunches follow karakia on Tuesdays.

The Library

Stop in or email the library for anything you need, because Anna, Mei Ling, and Siong are the most amazing folks around. If you need help with your assessments or gathering resources, come see them.

Library hours

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 6.30pm
Friday: 9am to 5pm
Saturday: 10am to 12.30pm

Double quotation mark (“”)

Did you know you can use the double quotation mark to search for a phrase when searching the library catalogue? Doing so will find resources with the full phrase, not just each individual word (e.g.“global warming”, “pastoral care”, “divine love”). Pretty sweet, aye?

Carey Open events

Tuesday, 1 October from 9am-3pm is Open Day at Carey. If you are on campus, we encourage you to take a minute and welcome anyone new and share with them how awesome Carey is!

If you love Carey, why not invite a mate along so they can experience what you have? Also, Online Open Evening is Tuesday, 8 October from 7.30-8.45pm. You can tell your friends about our Online Open Evening too, ya know?

Important training opportunity

Eastview Baptist Church is hosting a seminar for local church leaders (and those in training) to discuss the topic of “When Christian Marriages are Struggling with Porn & Infidelity.”

The seminar will be presented by Bonny Burns, an APSATS certified Counsellor & Christian Sexuality Educator, who specialises in the area of sexual betrayal in Christian marriages.

When: 26 September at 10.30am to 12pm
Where: Eastview Baptist Church (559 Chapel Road, East Tāmaki Heights, Auckland 2016)
