CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 SEMESTER 1 WEEK 9

We're Back!

Not that we were ever really gone, and it's not as though you were napping all day or relaxing at the beach the whole time. You've been hard at work, smashing those assignments, and reading and studying. Hopefully you did a bit of resting, though. Either way, we are back to class next Monday, 1 May! Oh, and community lunches... and karakia! Isn't it grand?

Code of Practice

Do you know about the The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice? It's a mouthful, so we just call it the code of practice, or the code.

NZQA has set out the code for school providers like Carey and how we are meant to care for your wellbeing, development, and educational achievement. Learn more about the code, and if you have questions, chat to Rob. Together, we want to make this the best environment we can to support your learning.

Studying at Carey is great, right?

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if others in our churches and faith communities joined in? CareyLocal provides an amazing opportunity to do just that.

We want students to gather together as a cohort, where they live, and study together, and we are offering two courses for free to groups of 10 or more! Are there people in your church who might like to study a Carey course together? Help us spread the word!

Learn more about CareyLocal on our website, or chat to Nicola for more info.

Kickstart Scholarship

For semester two, Carey is also offering the Kickstart Scholarship, which funds one course for students new to theological study at Carey!

If you know someone who would thrive at Carey, pass along the Kickstart brochure for full details.

Karakia back on Tuesday, 2 May

We will be back for karakia this coming Tuesday and can't wait to gather together as a community. Join us on Zoom or on-site to hear more on our theme for the year, Hear the Word of the Lord.

Meeting ID: 962 7072 5701

We can't wait to see you!

Graduation Helpers Needed

We are in need of some helpers for graduation. It's one of the most special days on the Carey calendar, but it doesn't happen without heaps of work.

If you are able to help set up and tear down at graduation on Saturday, 20 May at 2pm at Manukau City Baptist Church, let Neroli know.

Community Lunches are back too!

Community lunches will take place Monday and Tuesday for on-site students. If you are keen for great food and even better connections with the Carey community, then come along--12.15 on Mondays and noon on Tuesday.

Library Language Survey

We still need more responses for our language survey!

We will be doing a special Carey language week later this year and would love to find out more about the different languages that are represented at Carey from both from students and staff. We also want to be able to represent your language at karakia too.

Please take a minute to fill out this survey.

Library hours:

Monday to Thursday 8.30am-6.30pm
Friday 9am-5pm
Saturday 10am-12.30pm

Auckland Transport Concession Stickers

The AT concession stickers have finally arrived! If you are after an AT HOP card to make travelling by bus, train, or ferry a bit more affordable, stop by Reception and talk with Jacqui. She's got all the info you need.

Plus, she's just generally amazing, so stop by and see her anyway!
