CAREY WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 2023 SEMESTER 1 WEEK 8

Making progress

We are confident you are taking full advantage of the Study and Reading weeks and making great progress on your work for the semester. So, well done, and keep up the good work. One more week before we get back to class!

As always, our staff will continue to be available to support you. So feel free to reach out to Tanya and Eugene in Te Whare Oranga, or Siong, Mei Ling, and Anna in the library. And don't forget about the 10 Essentials found on CareyOnline.

Got a friend who hasn't studied at Carey, but would love it?

For semester two, Carey is offering the Kickstart Scholarship, which funds one course for students new to theological study at Carey!

If you know someone who would thrive at Carey, pass along the Kickstart brochure for full details.

Studying at Carey is great, right?

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if others in our churches and faith communities joined in? Next semester, we are running two special evening courses online to give new students a taste of how transformational studying at Carey can be.

We want students to gather together as a cohort, where they live, and study together, and we are offering these courses for free to groups of 10 or more! Are there people in your church who might like to study a Carey course together? Help us spread the word!

Learn more about CareyLocal, or chat to Nicola for more info.

ANZAC Day

On Tuesday, 25 April, Carey will be closed in observance of ANZAC Day. Campus will be open Monday, 24 April, and will re-open on Wednesday, 26 April. Enjoy the holiday!

Your Peer Writing Assistants

Don't forget to take advantage of Carey's peer-based, academic-writing support programme. Moana and Keren (left to right in the photo above) are available to help support you in your writing. All you need to do is ask!

To book a 25-50-minute session, contact the Library with the following details:

  • Your name and student ID number
  • Which assessment you are focusing on (course, assessment outline), and briefly identify what aspect of the assessment you would like help with.
  • Whether you want a 25-minute or 50-minute slot (in-person, via Zoom, or email)!

Community Lunch and Karakia

Community lunches and karakia will not be taking place over the study/reading weeks. See you back in week 10!

Library Language Survey

We will be doing a special Carey language week later this year and would love to find out more about the different languages that are represented at Carey from both from students and staff. We also want to be able to represent your language at karakia too.

Please take a minute to fill out this survey.

Library hours:

Monday to Thursday 8.30am-6.30pm
Friday 9am-5pm
Saturday 10am-12.30pm

Auckland Transport Concession Stickers

The AT concession stickers have finally arrived! If you are after an AT HOP card to make travelling by bus, train, or ferry a bit more affordable, stop by Reception and talk with Jacqui. She's got all the info you need.

Plus, she's just generally amazing, so stop by and see her anyway!
