One Week in

You've made it through the first week, and are hopefully feeling good about your classes, getting a feel for what your workload will be, and beaming with excitement about what's in store. The Carey staff are anticipating an unbelievable semester for the whole Carey whānau.

The start of the semester means a lot of administrative things to do. Be sure to stop by reception and talk to Jacqui about parking stickers, ID cards, and pay for coffee if you plan to use the SASS machine in the wharekai. If you need to change courses, you need to complete an Application to Change Courses form and submit it to Neroli.

Key Information on CareyOnline

Please note the section on CareyOnline that contains the Academic Regulations and Calendar. This document contains all the key programme regulations, student policies, and procedures.
Our Assessment Regulations were updated at the beginning of this year to specifically address the use of AI and chatbots (refer to the Assessment Regulations on page 30).

We are committed to ensuring Carey is a safe and inclusive learning environment, and are a signatory to the Education (Pastoral Care of Domestic and International Students) Code of Practice. Your wellbeing is a key priority.

Community Lunches

Come along for meaningful connection and whakawhanaungatanga for on-site students and staff during our weekly community lunches on Mondays at 12.15pm and Tuesdays just after karakia at 12pm.

Also, please stick around to help tidy up!

General Formation Tuesdays 10-11am

All students are welcome to attend general formation on Tuesday mornings throughout the semester with Nicola. If you're on-site, pop into the Library Commons Room, and if you are regional, feel free to join via Zoom (Meeting ID: 971 1733 5757).

First Steps REQUIREMENT and Library Info

All new students are required to complete the First Steps course on CareyOnline. This is a massively helpful online orientation course. Completing it straight away will not only help you get acclimated, but it will also endear you to the entire library staff.

Speaking of the library, semester hours are as follows:

Monday to Thursday 8.30am-6.30pm
Friday 9am-5pm
Saturday 10am-12.30pm

We will also be putting these up on the student Facebook page.

Want to be a Peer Writing Assistant?

One of the support mechanisms we offer at Carey is a Peer Writing Assistants (PWAs) programme. If you are a second of third year student with strong academic writing, and a love for supporting other students, then being a PWA may be for you!

We are looking for three or four students to upskill in peer writing support. If you are interested in finding out more please email Rob Ayres (Academic Director).
