Pass the Peace

“Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord…” 1 Thess. 5:12

This week Charles Hewlett was vulnerable with us at chapel. “This is an incredibly difficult time to be leading. Those we serve as leaders can be so hurtful, and never more so than in these anxious and divided times.”

This week I have spoken to a dozen different pastoral leaders up and down the country. They are all saying the same thing, and many of them are hurting. The weight they feel in helping their churches navigate life and love during these times is overwhelming for some of them. Maybe your pastor is hurting right now under the weight. Maybe they need you to acknowledge them, and to encourage them in their care for you.

This week our third-year pastoral leadership students were joined by six visiting pastors. The pastors were awesome, but they all talked about the cost of leadership: loneliness, the need for grit, the impossibilities, discrimination, unrealistic expectations, and navigating vulnerability. I love these pastors. They are people like you and me who are bravely serving people like you and me. I encourage you to reach out to your pastor today and “pass the Peace” to them.

The peace of the Lord be with you.

Campus Remains Closed

You'll no doubt know Auckland remains at Level 3 until at least 1 November. Carey’s current Alert Level 3 arrangements continue to be in place, and campus remains closed to staff and students.

As a result of the Government's decision to maintain Level 3, we have decided that the remainder of classes for semester two will continue to be facilitated fully online.

We acknowledge that for many of you, continuing to study fully online will be difficult, and we are working proactively with the teaching teams and support staff to ensure that you have the best support possible. If you need additional support please do not hesitate to contact your teachers or any of the support staff. If you are struggling with assessment timelines please contact your teacher and/or Neroli. Do this sooner rather than later so we can work with you.

Labour Day Monday 25 October

There will be no Monday online classes due to Labour Day. We hope you are able to take some time to relax and reboot.

Monday classes will have a catch up session on 8 November.

Course Evaluations Have Closed

Thank you for those who completed the course evaluations. Your teaching team will be providing feedback to classes that were being evaluated in the next couple of weeks. Check your CareyOnline course for details. Your feedback helps us to continually explore ways of improving what we do. Your voice matters!

Welfare and Wellbeing Support

We continue to remind staff and students and friends of the college that physical and mental wellbeing is important, and can be supported through accessing a range of resources.

The Government has compiled a list of services and support for physical and mental health, financial needs, and other support.

Click and Collect Available

While the library remains closed during Level 3, click and collect is available from 10am-1pm, Monday to Saturday. Please be in touch if you need any resources to support your studies.

Prayer

May we each desire God to replace
Fear with hope,
Greed with kindness,
Deceit with honesty,
Grumbling with gratitude,
And anxiety with joy.
May we each desire God to consume our inner most being.
May we decrease so that you, God, can increase.
