Charles Hewlett writes…
This time of year tends to get busy on the Pastoral Leadership Track at Carey. We are in the middle of the student annual evaluations – a stressful time when often difficult comments are spoken into people’s lives. I am always amazed at how open the students are to learning. Each time we go through this process I think of the wisdom that comes from the book of Proverbs. Take a few moments to sit down and reflect on these verses from the Message:
10:17 The road to life is a disciplined life,
ignore correction and you’re lost for good.
11:14 Without good direction, people lose their way,
The more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.
12:1 If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it –
How short sighted to refuse correction!
13:10 Arrogant know-it-alls stir up discord,
But wise men and women listen to each other’s counsel.
13:18 Refuse discipline and end up homeless;
embrace correction and live an honoured life.
14:24 The wise accumulate wisdom;
Fools get stupider by the day.
15:5 Moral dropouts won’t listen to their elders,
Welcoming correction is a mark of good sense.
15:12 Know-it-alls don’t like being told what to do;
they avoid the company of wise men and women.
15:14 An intelligent person is always eager to take in more truth;
fools feed on fast-food fads and fancies.
15:22 Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail;
Take good counsel and watch them succeed.
18:15 Wise men and women are always learning,
always listening for fresh insights.
19:20 Take good counsel and accept correction-
That’s the way to live wisely and well.
19:27 If you quit listening, dear child, and strike off on your own;
You’ll soon be out of your depth.
I wonder how open we are to people speaking onto our lives. In fact, do we have someone that does? Can I encourage you this week to find a trusted friend, a pastor, maybe a family member, and give them permission to speak into your life – it is hard but the benefits are amazing!
Have a good week

‘the sENDing’ - HELP!!
Thursday 30 October is the annual sENDing event when we farewell and commission the final year pastoral leadership students. However before the event itself can happen we are going to need to help in setting up the rooms.
At 2pm on the day, everything needs to be removed from the dining room and all the tables removed from Rooms 1 & 2 and the chairs rearranged. We simply need hands to carry furniture and with many on deck this will not take long.
If you are willing to help please see Karen or Rachel...(we might need to shoulder tap otherwise!)
