SEMESTER 1   |   WEEK 8

“It’s Friday – but Sunday’s coming!” Do you feel a bit like that as we wait for the announcement that alert levels are moving down and restrictions are to be lifted?

But what about Saturday? This Easter weekend it was actually the Saturday that impacted me in a deeper way than before. Jesus in Lockdown. Peter tells us that Jesus descended into the place of the dead to proclaim good news to them, and set them free from death’s imprisonment to enter into the life that he had won for them and for us (1 Peter 3:19-20; 4:6).

The saving work of Jesus required both the suffering of Friday and the victory of Sunday, but there was also saving, freeing, life-giving work that could only be done as Jesus entered into Lockdown on Saturday.

Perhaps there is work to be done in us, for us, and also by us in our lockdown Saturday. Let’s embrace it.

George Wieland

METANOIANZ

Last week, a number of Carey students launched a website called ‘Metanoia': an online blog and platform for discussing issues to do with life and faith in Aotearoa today. And they want you! This is a call for articles, essay’s, reflections, artefacts—any creative theological work in a medium you would like to work in—that reflects on life and faith in contemporary New Zealand society. Metanoia would love to see engaged public-theological reflection on issues of identity, justice, politics, church, art, and provide a voice and forum for discussion within the Carey student community and beyond.

If this all sounds at least a little interesting, please check out metanoianz.com and find us on Instagram and Facebook @metanoia.nz. If you are interested in getting involved or would like to find out more, chat to Jaimee Poole or Andrew Clark-Howard or email us at editors.metanoianz@gmail.com.
