WEEK 1
Kia ora koutou

Welcome to semester two at Carey. For our new students joining us for the first time this semester – nau mai, haere mai: it is so great to have you join our learning community. For returning students, I trust that the break has been refreshing and energising.

Make sure you look out for new faces this semester and ensure that our new whanau know they are welcome and supported. I say this every semester to new students at orientation and want to remind us all again here – the most important thing about your time here at Carey is not your grades, but growing your relationship with Jesus. That is what it is all about, and that is why BEING together as a community, to pray, to share, to disciple, to learn is so important.

If you are a distance student we pray that you too feel connected and part of the Carey whanau. I pray that this semester is a rich time of growth and learning for us all.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE HELP

Laurie Guy (former Carey lecturer) is available (free) to provide weekly academic help to students, particularly if English is your second language. The help would be given at Carey on Thursday afternoons, or at Laurie's home in Glen Innes by special arrangement. Email Laurie if you are interested (laurieguy4@gmail.com).

And try and turn up to a meeting of all interested students at the Carey library at 3pm on Thursday 24 July to finalise arrangements.

NEW LECTURERS FOR SEMESTER TWO

We're excited to introduce two new lecturers who will be joining the Carey faculty for Semester Two:
Dr Karen Nelson will be teaching MB531 Introduction to Old Testament while Csilla is on sabbatical.  Karen has a PhD from Otago University titled:” Hermeneutics for Old Testament texts : a study of meaning, message and methodology” and is involved in the Presbyterian church.  Csilla has used Karen to teach in her courses over the past few years.
Dr Stuart Lange will be involved with MB6/728 A History of the Gospel in Aotearoa with Andrew Picard.  Stuart has a long history of theological college teaching at Laidlaw College since 1990 and has a PhD in the history of twentieth-century evangelical Christianity in New Zealand.  Alongside his lecturing he continues to be the senior minister at  Massey Presbyterian Church.
