WEEK 3
Hi Everyone,

As students arrived at Carey and the library came alive, I started over as a student – studying to become a Spiritual Director.

A few years ago I had never heard the term, then I began meeting a spiritual director myself and understanding grew. But only as I began to write about it did my vision of what is involved become clear (I am sure it will get confusing again as well). It reminded me that those assignments that we hate/fear/avoid starting can be the most effective way to learn. This is how our brains work. A certain amount of stress is needed for learning to take place and lasting neural pathways to develop. When we are relaxed we do not retain as much and are not able to remember as much either.

Stress gets a bad reputation – turns out it can be positive, so make stress your friend and start those assignments!

DINING ROOM KARAKIA (PRAYER)

Wondering what the translation is for our Karakia that is up on the wall in the dining room? Here it is:

Bless this food
May it nourish our bodies and feed our spirit with the bread of eternal life
Bless our food in Jesus name, Amen.

WEDNESDAY PRAYER MEETING

(Carey Chapel 12.40pm - 1pm)

Siong Ng will be leading this time together. This is a time for everyone, staff and students together, to join and pray with one another.
When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw [Jesus] eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:16-17)
