I’m so glad you’ll be journeying with us this year.
I love this prayer in Ephesians chapter 3:
16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Notice that Paul says it is “together with all the Lord’s holy people” that we can grasp the dimensions of Christ’s love and be filled with the fullness of God. Theological study, like the Christian life, is not meant to be an individual journey. It’s best done in community together with others.
And Carey is a warm and supportive learning community. We prioritise relationships as part of the learning experience. So, if you’re studying by distance, feel free to email and phone your lecturers. They want to help you. Participate in the online forums, attend any zoom sessions on offer, interact with other students.
If you’re onsite, please feel free to knock on the doors of lecturers and staff. And please participate fully in our community life. Come to our free lunches on Monday (12.40 pm) and Tuesday (12.00 noon). Make Tuesday chapel (11.15 – 12.00) a priority. That weekly event is the beating heart of our community. And feel free to join us for prayer on Wednesdays (12.40 – 1.00 pm).
My prayer for you is that this would be a season of rich nourishment as you feed on God’s word, reflect on God’s work, and study God’s world. May you not just collect information but experience a deep transformation, in order that you might participate more fully in the mission of God.
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
