KIA ORA KOUTOU. WELCOME TO CAREY!

I’m so glad you’ll be journeying with us this year.

I love this prayer in Ephesians chapter 3:
16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Notice that Paul says it is “together with all the Lord’s holy people” that we can grasp the dimensions of Christ’s love and be filled with the fullness of God. Theological study, like the Christian life, is not meant to be an individual journey. It’s best done in community together with others.

And Carey is a warm and supportive learning community. We prioritise relationships as part of the learning experience. So, if you’re studying by distance, feel free to email and phone your lecturers. They want to help you. Participate in the online forums, attend any zoom sessions on offer, interact with other students.

If you’re onsite, please feel free to knock on the doors of lecturers and staff. And please participate fully in our community life. Come to our free lunches on Monday (12.40 pm) and Tuesday (12.00 noon). Make Tuesday chapel (11.15 – 12.00) a priority. That weekly event is the beating heart of our community. And feel free to join us for prayer on Wednesdays (12.40 – 1.00 pm).

My prayer for you is that this would be a season of rich nourishment as you feed on God’s word, reflect on God’s work, and study God’s world. May you not just collect information but experience a deep transformation, in order that you might participate more fully in the mission of God.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

CHAPEL WORSHIP - "Come and See"

“Come and see” is the very first invitation that Jesus extends during his earthly ministry. In this series for 2019, we will be asking questions such as "what difference might it make for us to live as people who hear this invitation from Jesus?"

Principal, Dr John Tucker is launching Chapel this year.

Come and see starting 11.15am on Tuesday!

COMMUNITY LUNCHES

(12.30pm Monday | 12pm Tuesday)

Join us on Monday and Tuesday for our Community Lunches. This is a great time to get to know other students and staff while enjoying a delicious lunch together.

WEDNESDAY PRAYER MEETING

(Carey Chapel 12.40pm - 1pm)

Sam Kilpatrick will be leading this time together. This is a time for everyone, staff and students together, to join and pray with one another.

FREE ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING FOR ESOL STUDENTS


Laurie Guy lectured at Carey for 23 years, and is now an adjunct lecturer in his retirement.

He is happy to meet weekly (Wednesday afternoons) with students for whom English is a second language.

This is to help ESOL students with their essays (both looking at good English writing and academic expectations in New Zealand). If you are interested in getting this help please meet him in the library on Wednesday 6 March, 12.40pm.

INTRODUCING THE 2019 STUDENT ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTS

Manakinui and Caleb Te Kahu are the new Student Association Presidents for 2019.

They will be sharing more information in the coming weeks but have some exciting events planned for students including a hangi! They're available to help you in any way they can.

These lovely ladies are here and available to help you so make use of their assistance - whether you are on-site or a distance student.

There's also a book sale in the library. come and have a look and grab a bargain.
